This tournament consisted of various categories such as: the open section which had a game time control of three minutes and two seconds increments, as well as an u-8 section which had a time control of 30 minutes. The goal for the tournament was to celebrate the new school year and to encourage the chess players to prepare themselves for the year. The West Coast area is currently fourth on the National blitz chess rankings and plans to organise more blitz tournaments this year in order to improve on the national rankings. The West Coast Chess Union are urgently in need of funds to support their players going to the South African Junior Chess Tournament which takes place in March in Johannesburg.
