    West Coast Players doing very well at the Western Cape Women’s Month Tournament

    The Western Cape Women’s Championships were held during the weekend of the 09th to 11 August 2019. The event was also open for men’ to participate in certain sections. More than 100 players from all over the Western Cape participated in this prestigious event. The event was graced with the presence of many high profile South African female players such as the South African Women’s Champion, Womans International Master (WIM) Jesse February as well as players such as WIM Anzel Laubscher, Women’s Fide Master Dantelle Joubert and Women’s Candidate Master Natasha Joubert.     West Coast Chess honored women during women’s month

    The West Coast Chess Union honored women’ during the month of August with a number of activities that took place from 6 till 8 August 2019. The activities were done in partnership with Club Mykonos. The first activity was a motivational session done by the South African Women’s Chess Champion, Women’s International Master Jesse February. During her, Jesse shared her personal experiences of being a woman in sports and how her life journey developed as a player.     Weskus Ope Skaak hou Weskus Ope Skaak Toernooi. Die Weskus Ope Skaak Kampioenskappe het die naweek van die 27 tot 28ste April plaasgevind. Altesaam 127 spelers het in die kompetisie meegeding in A, B, C afdelings. Die Weskus Ope toernooi word gekenmerk as die strafste Skaak kompetisies in die Weskus en skaak spelers van verskillende ouderdoms groepe en ervarings vlakke ding teen mekaar mee. n Speler met n ouderdom van 7 jaar kan in skere seksies dus teen n speler van 50 jaar oud speel. This tournament consisted of various categories such as: the open section which had a game time control of three minutes and two seconds increments, as well as an u-8 section which had a time control of 30 minutes.     Two tiny chess masters on SA under-8 Grand Prix list | Netwerk24

    West Coast Chess (WCC) is currently celebrating some wonderful achievements, as two of its u-8 chess players have finished in the top 20 of the u-8 category on both the Grand Prix list for Grand Prix scoring as well as the rating list for highest rated players in South Africa. The rankings are very significant, in the sense that it reflects the top 20 chess players per age group in South Africa that are eligible to be invited to participate at the South African Junior Closed Chess Championships (SAJCC) that will take place in 2019.     West Coast Chess on a roll with several ratings gains | Netwerk24

    The West Coast Chess Union has moved up two places on the standard chess ranking list and is now placed 20th out of 40 regions. Many members of the West Coast Chess Union also moved up in their rankings as well. Jacques Basson achieved the 84th place out of 100 players for the most wins until September 2018. Andrea Lewaks was also placed 19th on the u-8 Grand Pix ranking list. Arthur Resandt achieved 22nd place and Ethan Billet was placed 71th, and both received the highest rating gain for September 2018.
