    West Coast Chess (WCC) is currently celebrating some wonderful achievements, as two of its u-8 chess players have finished in the top 20 of the u-8 category on both the Grand Prix list for Grand Prix scoring as well as the rating list for highest rated players in South Africa. The rankings are very significant, in the sense that it reflects the top 20 chess players per age group in South Africa that are eligible to be invited to participate at the South African Junior Closed Chess Championships (SAJCC) that will take place in 2019.     West Coast Chess on a roll with several ratings gains | Netwerk24

    The West Coast Chess Union has moved up two places on the standard chess ranking list and is now placed 20th out of 40 regions. Many members of the West Coast Chess Union also moved up in their rankings as well. Jacques Basson achieved the 84th place out of 100 players for the most wins until September 2018. Andrea Lewaks was also placed 19th on the u-8 Grand Pix ranking list. Arthur Resandt achieved 22nd place and Ethan Billet was placed 71th, and both received the highest rating gain for September 2018.     This year, the West Coast Chess Union (WCCU) decided to pay tribute to veteran chess player Basil Ellman by initiating the first Annual Basil Ellman Rapid Chess Tournament, held in St Helena Bay on Saturday 16 June.
